Travel Awards Requirements
Department of Biology travel awards
EEB and Microbiology graduate students may be eligible for travel awards to:
- present a talk or poster on their research at a scientific conference or
- attend an external workshop or class related to their research
Students may apply one time each year for funds up to $400 (domestic travel) or $800 (international travel). Funds are awarded either for conference or workshop/class travel (not both).
Awards are granted on a first-come first-served basis and are limited to three per lab per year.
The GCDB Graduate Travel Support Fund assists students in need to present at major national conferences. Awards can be for funds up to $300. There are two deadlines for each year.
The deadline to apply for the GCDB Fall Travel Award competition is the Friday of the week of Fall Break (Mid-October). You are eligible for the Fall Travel Award if you travel to and present at a major national conference between July of the current year through March of the next year.
The deadline to apply for the GCDB Spring Travel Award competition is the Friday before Spring Break (Mid-March). You are eligible for the Spring Travel Award if you travel to and present at a major national conference between January of the current deadline date through August.
College travel awards
Biology graduate students are encouraged to apply for the competitive College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Student Travel Awards offered in the fall and spring. Submit applications through the IU Biology graduate student advising office.
Women in Science Travel Award: Executive Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences will provide professional development funds to women in scientific and mathematical fields in the form of travel awards to supplement trips to conferences and research facilities. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis and may be submitted at any time prior to travel.
