Our faculty worked with life sciences industry representatives to design a modern, state-of-the-art curriculum that is highly valued by the life sciences industry.
We work closely with chief scientific officers and human resource personnel from several corporations to ensure our program prepares students for the exciting field of biotechnology. Executives from industry are also members of an oversight committee for both the graduate and undergraduate programs.
We frequently invite industrial scientists and executives to present seminars in the Biotechnology Seminar Series where they can interact with students. The inclusion of industrial representatives ensures that the curriculum provides a graduating class that meets the needs and expectations of employers. An advisory board consisting of leaders from various biotech industries provide input on the curriculum as well as serve as contacts for internships and other opportunities for our students.
We offer several teaching laboratory facilities with state-of-the-art equipment. Biotechnology students undertaking independent research projects have access to equipment in individual faculty laboratories as well as access to numerous departmental affiliated core research facilities that constitute greater than $50 million investment in life sciences infrastructure on this campus.
Provides insights into the science, methods, scope, diversity, history, business, and legal ramifications of biotechnology with the goal of demonstrating how different disciplines are integrated within the complex world of biotechnology. Examines biotechnological practices and activities, uses biotechnology to teach problem solving, and introduces existing impediments to progress in biotechnology.
Analyzes the scientific, regulatory and commercial considerations used to develop and market products across biotechnology industries. Successful biotechnology-related products require input from basic research, manufacturing, regulatory, legal, medical and marketing perspectives. The balance of these factors across the industry will be discussed, with special attention given to pharmaceutical drug development.
In-depth application of advanced laboratory techniques currently used in biotechnology. Course is divided into three modules, each emphasizing a specific discipline within biotechnology. General laboratory techniques are taught in all modules.
