Prepare for success in the biotechnology field—through either industry or further academic work—in Indiana University’s Master of Science in Biotechnology Program.

You can make meaningful contributions in a growing field! Biotechnology has developed treatments for diseases, expanded global food supplies, improved the environment, advanced forensics, responded to pandemics, and more. As a graduate of this one-year advanced-study program, you’ll have a strong foundation for a career that benefits both you and society.

Our faculty of research scientists provides core training to students in Biotechnology. Students may choose to work in the labs of Biotechnology or Biology program faculty members, but are not limited to faculty members’ labs. You may instead work in a lab from another department, such as Biochemistry or Medical Sciences.

Students from other graduate degree programs can receive a graduate minor in Biotechnology with at least 6 credit hours with an average grade of B or above in the following courses: T501 (2 cr.), T502 (2 cr.), T508 (3 cr.), T515 (3 cr.), T521 (2 cr.), T525 (3 cr.), T540 (3 cr.), T680 (1-3 cr.).

Students may not count T521 toward the minor if they use it to fulfill a degree requirement for another program. Courses not explicitly listed may be used with the approval of the Director of Graduate Studies for Biotechnology.
