The Department of Biology administers the Indiana University Herbarium (IND). Founded in 1885, the herbarium houses over 161,000 specimens (of which 155,000 are vascular plants), including the collections of Charles C. Deam on which the Flora of Indiana (1940) is based.
The IU Herbarium is housed in Room 130C of the Smith Research Center, which is located in a cluster of buildings on the northeast corner of East 10th Street and the State Road 45/46 bypass in Bloomington, with parking lot access from East 10th Street.
