1950s
- Isabel Fulton Ahlgren, PhD’50. While a DePauw undergrad, she worked in IU botanist Ralph Cleland’s Oenothera (evening primrose) patch and made pollen slides. After receiving her degree, Isabel spent several years teaching at Wheaton and Wellesley Colleges and in 1954 married her husband, Clifford Ahlgren. She was employed as a research associate at the Quetico-Superior Wilderness Research Center, now part of the Univ. of Minnesota, and also taught during the winter months at the Univ. of Minnesota. In 1987 she and her husband, Clifford, retired to half-time research, and from part-time summer research in 1992. Over their careers they have authored 1 book, co-authored another, and published 70 research papers. Since retiring she has become interested in basketry, teaching workshops on basket making, and some of her basket designs were published. Isabel lives in Sun City, AZ. The Ahlgrens have two children: their daughter, now deceased, was a professor of marine biology, and their son recently retired after a career in administrative law enforcement.
- James K. Langhammer, BA’58, MA’61. James retired from his job as a zoologist with the Detroit Zoological Park and Aquarium in 1985. He lives in Michigan with his spouse, Lewis Fraleigh. In his free time he enjoys gardening and husbanding tropical fish and herptiles.
1960s
- John R. Aguilar, M.D., BA’67. After earning his degree and attending medical school, John toured the world with the US Navy as a Medical Director and Department Head. He was stationed in places such as Italy, Florida, Panama, Guam, Philippines, Texas, Spain, and Hawaii. After 30 years with the Navy, he retired as a Captain in the Medical Corps. Since retirement he enjoys traveling the world and reading. He lives in Palmyra, Virginia, with his wife Sue (Clayton), BA’67. His interests include art, world history, cultural anthropology, languages, and psychology.
- Judith A. Dilts, BA’68, MA’75, PhD’76. Judith spent 29 years at William Jewell College, most recently as a Professor and Chair of the Biology Department. Currently she’s Associate Dean of James Madison University’s College of Science and Mathematics. She’s a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, secretary for the AAAS Education Section, and co-chair for Project Kaleidoscope. In her spare time she enjoys playing guitar and reading mysteries.
- Don Gordon, MA’64, PhD’66. Don earned both his Master’s and PhD from IU Bloomington. He retired from his position as Professor of Botany, Horticulture, and Environment at Minnesota State University and was also a syndicated newspaper columnist for 36 years. He lives in Florida with his wife, Kathryn (Tidd), MAT’66. In his free time he’s an author and also writes for the University of Minnesota Press.
- Ronald Hall, BA’64, MD’68. Ronald received his MD from the IU School of Medicine and practiced pediatrics until he retired, most recently in Fort Wayne for 25 years. He and his wife, Susan, live in Fort Wayne, IN. He enjoys time with his grandchildren, and is interested in genealogy and IU sports.
- Sheila (Kimbrough) Henry, BA’68, MAT’74. After graduating from IU, Sheila spent one year teaching 9th grade Biology in Scottsburg, IN, and then moved to California to substitute teach for a year. She returned to IU to start her Masters coursework. In 1971 she was hired to teach 7th grade science in Bloomington where she remained for 30 years. After retiring, she traveled across 46 states with her husband, Bo, in their motorhome. She enjoys scuba diving in the Caribbean and attending classes around Bloomington, including IU’s Mini University and its Lifelong Learning Program.
- Richard A. Hirschenbein, BA’68. After graduating from IU, Richard earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1971. Currently he’s a self-employed Attorney at Law, concentrating on real estate, estate planning, and estate administration. He lives in Illinois with his wife, Sheila. He’s on the Economic Development Committee for the City of Rolling Meadows, and his interests include traveling, reading, golf, and fine dining.
- R. Stephen Irwin, BA’68, MD’71. Steve earned his MD from the IU School of Medicine in 1971. He works as a Family Practice Doctor at the Saint Joseph Medical Center in Polson, MT. He and his wife, Jan, live on Flathead Lake in Montana by Glacier National Park. In his free time he enjoys traveling, big game hunting, IU Basketball, and collecting prehistoric art.
- Daniel E. James, BS’66, MAT’69. After receiving his Master's, Daniel’s first job was with IU as curator of the Culture Collection of Algae. He then was employed by the Carolina Biological Supply Company, where he worked his way up to his current position of Vice President of Business Development. He lives in Burlington, NC, with his wife, Paula, and is semi-retired.
- Donald Kritsch, BA’67, MA’71, retired in 2003 after 22 years as Dean of the Health Technologies Department at Durham Technical Community College. He lives in Durham, NC with his wife, Barbara Baker. In his free time he enjoys hiking and fishing, reading, and fine scale wooden ship modeling.
- Edwin Marshall, BA’68, BS’70, DO’71, MS’79, also has an M.P.H. and is Professor Emeritus of Optometry in the Indiana University School of Optometry and Professor Emeritus of Public Health in the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health and the Indiana University School of Public Health Bloomington. Prior to his retirement in 2013, Dr. Marshall was the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs. Prior to that, he was the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Administration at the Indiana University School of Optometry.
- Ruth Merz, MA’68. Ruth retired in 2009 after spending 20+ years as the Director of the Hawaii Birth Defects Program in Honolulu, HI. She’s a member of the Honolulu Symphony Chorus and the Hawaii Ovarian Cancer Support group. She visits nursing homes with her 2 Italian Greyhounds, that are certified Therapy Dogs, and participates in numerous church activities.
- Mark Smedley, BA’68, MD’72. Mark earned his MD from the IU School of Medicine, and has since retired from the clinical practice of emergency medicine. He’s the Assistant Medical Director at Western Health Advantage in Sacramento. Mark lives with his wife, Sharon, in Loomis, CA. In his free time he enjoys vintage motorsports, restoration, and judging.
- Charles Thompson, BA’67, MA’70, PhD’71, works as a Research Professor of Ecology in the School of Biological Sciences at Illinois State University, after retiring from his regular faculty position in 2007. Although retired, he continues to maintain his research laboratory and train graduate students. Charles and his wife, Karen (Miller) Thompson, BS’68, live in Bloomington, IL.
- Paul Uslan, BA’69, BS’71, DO’73. Paul owns his own optometry practice. He lives in Ann Arbor, MI with his wife, Georgia. The Uslans have 2 daughters at IU, one at Law School and the other an undergrad. His brother, Michael, producer of the “Batman” movies is also an IU alum. In his free time he enjoys golfing and helping to improve his community.
- Dan Walker, BA’68, earned a PhD in Botany from the University of California at Berkeley in 1974. He’s been a professor of Botany/Biology at the University of Georgia, UCLA, and San Jose State University. At SJSU, he was also an Associate Dean of the College of Science. Now retired, he lives with his wife, Joan, on the central coast of California. He enjoys nature and spending time in the American West. Dan thanks IU Professor Paul Mahlberg for launching him on a promising career.
- Wu-Kuang Yeh, MA’69, earned a PhD in Microbiology from The University of Texas, and completed an NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship at Yale University. He worked at Eli Lilly, 1982-2004, most recently as a Principal Research Scientist, then from 2004-2010 at PreClinOmics as Director of Research and Principal Investigator. Since 2010, he has been an Adjunct Professor of Biotechnology at IUPUI. Wu-Kuang lives in Greenwood, IN with his wife, Yen-Yu. His interests include enzyme biotechnology teaching and publishing, with 3 books published and 3 more on the way. In his free time he enjoys running mini-marathons, playing table tennis, and traveling.
1970s
- Dennis Bertram, BA’70, earned his MD from the Washington University School of Medicine, and a Master of Public Health and Doctor of Science from Johns Hopkins University. He is a self-employed artist who lives with his wife, Peggy, in Buffalo, NY.
- Byron Braun, BA’77, is president of Braun Wealth Management Group, LLC, and the president and co-founder of Ft. Wayne Children’s Foundation. He is a USTA team tennis captain, and a founding member of the Ft. Wayne Chapter of Legatus. Byron and his wife, Linn, live in Ft. Wayne, IN.
- Charles Bricker, BA’76, MD’79, is an internist at the Wenatchee Valley Medical Center. Charles and his wife, Christy, live in Wenatchee, WA. He enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, and other outdoor activities.
- James Brogan, BA’74, earned his JD from the Villanova University School of Law. He’s a managing partner and co-chair for US Litigation at the law firm DLA Piper. He’s a member of the Victors for Michigan Leaders Committee and on the Pro-Bono Honor Roll at the Philadelphia Bar Association. James lives with his wife, Doris, in Saint Davids, PA. He enjoys skiing, biking, and hiking.
- Steve Cassady, BA’72, MS’77. For 27 years, Steve was a Life Sciences teacher for Danville Community High School and an active member of The Hoosier Association of Science Teachers. Now he is an adjunct professor in the Biology Department at IUPUI.
- James Clack, BA’74, received his PhD in Neurobiology from Purdue University. He was an NIH Postdoctoral Trainee in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the Yale University School of Medicine. He lives in Columbus, IN, and is a Professor of Biology at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus.
- Thomas Crisman, BA’70, MA’72, PhD’77, is a professor in the Department of Integrative Biology and Environmental and Occupational Health at the University of South Florida. Thomas lives with his wife, Ulrike, in Tampa, FL. He enjoys traveling, cooking, and bird watching.
- John Crum, BS’73, MD’78, is a self-employed physician consultant after serving as the Chief Medical Officer for Humana Military Services. His interests include historic preservation and restoration. He is board president of The St. James Ct. Historic Foundation. John lives with his wife, Kimberly, in Louisville, KY.
- Helen Foster, BA’73, earned her MS in Occupational and Environmental Health from Wayne State Univ. She is now retired from Chrysler Corp., where she was a Corporate Industrial Hygienist. Helen and her husband, Wallace, live in New Mexico. She enjoys volunteering and hiking.
- Gary French, BA’75, earned his pharmacy degree from Butler University. He works as a pharmacist. Gary, his wife, Marjorie, and their 4 children live in Danville, IL. He enjoys traveling.
- William Goldman, BS’76, earned his PhD at the Univ. of North Carolina. He was on the faculty of Washington University in St. Louis for 25 years. In 2008 he became a professor and the Chair of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research focuses on infectious respiratory diseases. William has published over 100 articles and given more than 200 lectures in the US and 16 other countries.
- Nancy (Wenning) Griffith, BA’74, MD’77. After graduating from IU and earning her MD from the IU School of Medicine, Nancy completed her Residency in Family Practice at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. She retired from her solo private practice and is now part-time staff at Ball Memorial Hospital’s Family Medicine Residency Program. Nancy and her husband, James Griffith, BA’74, DDS’77, live in Mooreland, IN. She enjoys sewing, gardening, traveling, and being a part of her grandchildren’s lives.
- Vincent Guido, BA’78, DDS’82, works at Guido Family Dentistry in Lafayette, IN. Vincent lives with his wife, Sherri (Keehn), BA’79, AS’81, in West Lafayette, IN.
- Cynthia Haq, BA’79, MD’83, works as a Professor of Family Medicine and Population Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She enjoys biking, yoga, and gardening.
- Wayne Hart, BA’73, earned his MS in Bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin. He works as a Policy Strategist for the Idaho Public Utilities Commission. He says that while a Biology degree may not seem related to utility regulation, he became interested in energy after studying methane-producing microorganisms in grad school. Wayne and his wife, Theresa, live in Boise, ID.
- James Heubi, BA’70, MD’73, completed a Residency in Pediatrics at the IU School of Medicine. He’s a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Assoc. Dean there for Clinical and Translational Research. His wife, Marge, is also an alum.
- Marquis Hodes, BA’73, MS’77, MD’91, completed his Residency in Pediatrics in 1994 at the IU School of Medicine. He also has a PhD in Immunobiology from Cornell. Marquis works as a Staff Physician and Vice Chairman of the Biomedical IRB at the Purdue University Student Health Center. He and his wife, Jennifer, live in Indianapolis. He enjoys gardening, growing orchids, and supporting the music programs of North Central High School in Indianapolis.
- Pat Hoffman, BA’76, works as a BioOncology Field Reimbursement Manager for Genentech USA. She lives in Dyer, IN, and enjoys travel and golf.
- Michelle Howenstine, BA’78, MD’82, completed her Residency in Pediatrics in 1985 at the IU School of Medicine. She is Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at the IU School of Medicine, and also a Pediatric Pulmonologist at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
- Joel Ivers, MA’75, works as a Vice President and Venture Fund Manager for the Dayton Development Coalition. He and his wife, Susan (Brechlin), MAT’75, live in Cincinnati, OH. He enjoys volunteering.
- Cheryl Cox Kinney, BA’77, MD’81, completed her Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the IU School of Medicine. She has been named by the Consumer’s Research Council as one of America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists annually since 2002 and has been named a Texas Super Doctor by her peers for the past 10 years. Cheryl lives with her husband, Craig, in Dallas. She serves on the Executive Dean’s Advisory Board for the IU College of Arts and Sciences.
- Alex Kordis, BA’74, DDS’78, earned a Certificate of Specialization for Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Nebraska. In 2009 he retired from 23 years in the US Navy as a Pediatric Dentist and now works as a Staff Pediatric Dentist in Onancock, VA. He enjoys cycling for charities, sailing, and the BMW Car Club.
- Larry Lehrner, BS’71, PhD’74, MD’76, is the President of the Kidney Specialists of Southern Nevada, and President of Medical Staff at Kindred Hospital, and he also owns yogurt stores in Reno and Albuquerque. He lives with his wife, Shelley, in Las Vegas.
- John Levon, BA’75, DDS’78, served in the US Air Force for 22 years. Earned his MS from the University of Texas at San Antonio and completed training in prosthodontics and maxillofacial prosthetics. Retired from the Air Force as a Colonel, and began his present position of Director of Advanced Education in Prosthodontics and Maxillofacial Prosthetics at the IU School of Dentistry.
- Deborah Lorton, BA’74, earned a degree in Medical Technology, specializing in chemistry. She was a Medical Technologist Instructor at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Loyola Hospital in Chicago, and Columbus State Community College in Columbus, OH. Now retired, she lives in Bloomington and enjoys gardening, boating, and reading.
- Kermit Lovelace, BA’77, earned his MBA from the University of Cincinnati. He works as Director of Network Operations and Network Transformation at Cincinnati Bell Telephone. Kermit lives with his wife, Lisa, in Ohio. He’s a private pilot and enjoys skiing, scuba diving, and traveling.
- Jay Lozier, BS’79, PhD’83, MD’85, works as a Senior Staff Clinician at the NIH Clinical Center, Department of Laboratory Medicine, in Bethesda, MD. Jay and his wife, Mary, live in Maryland. He enjoys scouting, karate, woodworking, and music.
- Cathy Meyer, BS’76, MA’79, MS’81, works as a Naturalist for Monroe County Parks and Recreation in Bloomington, IN. She enjoys activities with various environmental groups as well as dancing, gardening, contra dancing, and kayaking.
- Emily Allyn Moore, BA’71, PhD’76, MS’85, is retired. She serves as a mentor for the Starfish Initiative, aiding and preparing economically disadvantaged students for college and career success. She and her husband, Robert, live in Indianapolis. She enjoys spending time with her granddaughter, traveling, family history, music, reading, and art.
- Ron Pearson, BA’72, retired after 38 years of being an Environmental Biologist at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. In 2012 he began working part-time in both Mike Lynch’s lab culturing rotifers, and Rudy Raff’s lab studying biofilms in marine bacteria. He lives in Gosport, IN and enjoys keeping connected with microbiology and the IU Biology Department.
- Karen (Blair) Rosen, BA’77, earned her O.D. from the University of Missouri, St. Louis College of Optometry. She practices Optometry in St. Louis with her husband, who is a graduate of the IU College of Optometry, Steven Rosen, BS’77, DO’79. They have been on 19 international missions to deliver vision care and glasses to 3rd world countries. They enjoy traveling and playing golf.
- Janet Rucker, BA’78, DDS’82, practices dentistry in Crawfordsville, IN. She is a member of the Montgomery County Community Foundation board, and is former president of the Montgomery County Free Clinic board. She married Leslie Robertson, BA’76, and they live in Crawfordsville, IN.
- Jack Rush, BS’76, earned his MD from the University of Chicago, and completed a residency in Family Practice at the University of Iowa. He is a Physician in Family Medicine and is the current President of medical staff at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY. Jack lives with his wife, Laurie (Watson) Rush, BA’76, in Clayton, NY. His interests include evidence-based medicine and policy directions for a rational health care system.
- Judith (Auer) Shaw, BA’73, earned her MA from the University of Michigan and PhD from Rutgers University. She’s a Senior Research Associate at the E.J Bloustein School of Planning & Public Policy at Rutgers. Judith lives with her husband, Roger, in New Jersey. She enjoys gardening, is a member of the Burlington County Agricultural Development Board. Her book, The Raritan River: Our Landscape, Our Legacy, was published in Jan. 2015.
- Alan Snell, BA’72, MD’76, went on to a 27-year medical career as a Family Physician and educator of Family Medicine Residents in South Bend. He’s also been the Chief Medical Informatics Officer at St. Vincent Health and Ascension Health in St. Louis. Alan is enjoying ‘semi-retirement,’ lecturing to medical students and Master's students in Informatics at IUPUI, and working as a global healthcare IT consultant for his own business, RISE Healthcare, LLC.
- Nancy Spear, MA’79, is retired from her work science cataloging at Morris Library at Southern Illinois University. She lives in Murphysboro, IL, enjoys hiking and spending time with her dogs and horses.
- Rob Steele, BS’74, earned his PhD from Yale University. He lives in California where he is a Professor at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine.
- Anne Janay Dick Stump, BA’72, MD’76, completed a Pediatric Internship and Residency at Methodist Hospital. She is co-owner and pediatrician at Step by Step Pediatrics in Indianapolis. Anne lives in Indianapolis with her husband, Norman Stump, MSEd’72, DDS’79. She enjoys Butler basketball, Mickey Mouse, Disney, and scrapbooking.
- Larry Tavel, BA’72, MD’77, is the President of the Dr Tavel Optical Group and the Dr Tavel Realty Group. Larry lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Sandra (Jones) Tavel, BA’86.
- Paul Vogelgesang, BA’77, earned a Master’s in Management from Webster University in St. Louis. He is a Chief Risk Officer for the Anaheim Ducks & Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. Paul lives in Laguna Hills, CA with his wife, Dr. Brooke Harms, and enjoys playing tennis and golf.
- Michael Watkins, BA’79, JD’86, earned a JD from the IU School of Law in Indianapolis. He is a Partner at Barnes & Thornburg LLP. Mike lives in Cassopolis, MI, with his wife Claudia. Their daughter attends IU.
- Linda Werling, BS’76, earned a PhD in Pharmacology from Duke University. She is a Professor of Pharmacology and Physiology at the George Washington University School of Medicine. Linda lives in Rockville, MD, with her husband, Michael Newton.
- Kenneth Wiesert, BA’72, MD’75, completed a Residency in Psychiatry at the IU School of Medicine. He is a self-employed physician, board certified in Psychiatry and Sleep Disorders Medicine. Kenneth lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Loy. He enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, photography, and music.
- Edward Wills, BA’73, MD’76, completed a Residency in Pathology at the IU School of Medicine, and is a Pathologist for AmeriPath in Indianapolis. He’s the former president of the Danville Junior Basketball League and Little League Boards of Directors. Ed lives in Danville, IN with his wife, Cynthia Wills, MD’84. He enjoys bicycling and describes himself as a ‘suburban triathlete’ (gardening, tree trimming, and lawn care.)
- James Wygant, BS’77, retired from his position of Research Lab Coordinator at the University of Texas after 30 years. He then spent 3 years working as a Staff Scientist at Bioo Scientific Corp in Austin. James lives in Dale, TX with his wife, Carmella. He enjoys tending to his pecan orchard and vegetable gardens, working on old cars, and working election campaigns for the Democratic Party.

- Joseph Bailey, BA’83, DDS’86, has been a dentist for 28 years. He lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Barbara. His interests include IU sports, the Colts, Pacers, and Reds. He enjoys his church service work, watching his children’s high school sports, running, and biking.
- Sherri (Pearson) Bass, BA’83, is a Senior Environmental Manager at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, where she started as an Environmental Scientist in 1985. She lives with her husband, Anthony, in Indianapolis. She is active in her church, serving as a deaconess and coordinator for their junior Bible study.
- Larry Best, BA’81, earned a BS and Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. He is a Podiatrist at the Elkhart Clinic in Elkhart, IN. Larry lives with his wife, Lori, in Goshen, IN. He enjoys exercising, traveling, reading, and classic cars.
- David Beversdorf, BS’87, MD’92, is an Associate Professor of Radiology, Neurology, and Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri. He lives with his wife, Shelley, in Rocheport, MO. He enjoys fine dining, playing piano, and competitive powerlifting.
- Catherine (Robb) Bevier, BS’89, earned her PhD from the University of Connecticut in 1995. She is an Associate Professor of Biology at Colby College, and enjoys telling undergraduate students how she found her way into research with the help of her academic advisor, Craig Nelson, and her research mentor, Bill Rowland. She’s also a state chair of the American Association of University Women. Catherine lives in Maine with her husband, Louis, and enjoys running, hiking, swimming, and reading.
- Anne (Anderson) Broderick, BA’83, earned her medical technology certification in 1984 and a hematology specialty in 1989. She has worked for IU Health for nearly 30 years and is currently a Senior Medical Technologist at the IU Health Pathology Lab in Hematology in Indianapolis. She lives with her husband, Tom, in Indianapolis and has 5 sons. She enjoys reading, working out at the Y, volunteering at church, and watching IU Basketball.
- Kevin Brown, BA’86, MBA’07, works as a Chemist Supervisor for the Gary Sanitary District in Gary, IN. He’s a former Boy Scout leader and public school mentor, and is a Deacon at his church. He hopes to start his own business in the near future.
- Karen Campbell, PhD’89, is a professor and The P. Kenneth Nase Chair of Biology at Albright College. She resides in Reading, PA.
- Andrea Cawein, BS’81, earned a M.S in Pharmaceutical and Health Care Administration. She is the Senior Director for Global Vaccine Clinical Science at Pfizer, Inc. She’s a volunteer for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and a Science Fair Judge. Andrea lives in Mamaroneck, NY with her husband, Carlo Reca, and their 3 sons. She enjoys taking care of her children, music, gardening, traveling, and is pursuing a Master’s in Public Health.
- Sandra Cottingham, BS’81, earned her MD and PhD from the Rockefeller Institute in New York. She is an Anatomic Pathologist, Neuropathologist at Michigan Pathology Specialists, PC, in Grand Rapids, MI. Sandra and her husband, Steven Cline, live in Ada, MI. Recently her daughter Katharine Cline, BS’14, graduated with a degree in Exercise Science from IU. She enjoys knitting, crocheting, and political activities.
- Christopher Dalton, BA’81. After graduating from IU, Christopher went on to earn a DDS. He practices dentistry in Amherst, OH. His daughter, Meredith Dalton, BA’10, also graduated from IU and now works as a PA. He lives Amherst with his wife, Wendy.
- Carol (Cox) Eisenhut, BS’81, MD’85, MBA’90, practices cytopathology and is president of her partnership, DCL Pathology LLC. She’s married to Timothy Eisenhut, BS’80, MD’84, and enjoys gardening, hiking, and church.
- Donald French, PhD’85, works as a Professor at Oklahoma State University in the Department of Zoology. He lives in Stillwater, OK, with his wife, Janice (Rushton), MS’73, PhD’86.
- Lisa Lanham-Friesner, BA’86. After graduating from IU, Lisa went on to earn a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. She works as a Podiatrist for Southern Indiana Orthopedics. She married her husband, Rick, and they live in Columbus, IN. She enjoys parenting, church, cross stitching, and IU Basketball.
- David Gilmore, BA’84, earned his PhD from the University of Connecticut. He works as an Associate Professor for Arkansas State University in the Department of Biological Sciences. David and his wife, Diane (Holloran), DO’84, live in Arkansas. He enjoys playing music for his church, gardening, and brewing.
- Scott Hackett, BA’82, MD’86, earned his MD from the IU School of Medicine. He works as Physician, President, and Owner of Northside ENT in Carmel. Scott and his wife, Patricia (Reis), BS’82, MS’88, live in Carmel, IN.
- Jeffrey Hatcher, BS’89, earned his MD and completed a fellowship with the American College of Physicians. He works as the Medical Director at the Regional Center for Infectious Disease in Greensboro, NC. He’s also on the board of directors for the Triad Health Project and Central Carolina Health Network. Jeffrey and his wife, Toddie Peters, live in North Carolina. He enjoys cycling and whitewater kayaking.
- G. Thomas Hayman, MA’83, earned his PhD in Microbiology from Loyola University of Chicago in 1990. He’s a Research Scientist working on the rat genome database at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He enjoys science fiction, curling, and sailing.
- Catherine Hult, BA’88, earned her JD from Loyola University. She works as an Attorney in Largo, FL. She and her husband, Jim, live in Florida. She’s the host of “Legal Talk,” a local radio show, and enjoys running, gourmet cooking, and antiques.
- John Lawlor, BA’81, DDS’85, earned his DDS from the IU School of Dentistry in 1985. He’s a self-employed dentist, and lives with his wife, Sandra, in Princeton, IN. He enjoys cycling with his wife.
- Douglas Lawson, BS’89, MD’93, earned his MD from the IU School of Medicine. He works as a staff OB/GYN for North Shore Health in Portage, IN. He’s been a staff physician for training residents in the past, and still will take on medical and nurse practitioner students. He enjoys spending time with his son, making sure he has the same opportunities as he did to go to college.
- Lisa Lear, BA’83, DDS’87, MSD’90, earned her DDS from the IU School of Dentistry. She continued training in the specialty of Periodontics to complete the Certificate Program in Periodontics and earn her Master of Science in Dentistry. In 1992 she opened her own periodontal practice, and is currently the President of the Arizona Dental Association. Lisa lives in Arizona with her husband, James. She enjoys traveling, skiing, dancing, and hosting a dinner club.
- Lloyd Lewis, Jr, BS’80, MD’84, works as an OB/GYN in Shelbyville, IN. One of his daughters, Morgan, recently graduated from the IU School of Nursing. He enjoys the community of Shelbyville, hiking, sailing, and reading.
- Clair Lombardo, BS’88, earned her M.Ed from Lesley University. She works as a High School Biology and Environmental Science Teacher in Kingston, MA. Before going into teaching she was a research scientist, growing new sheets of skin to aid burn patients. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband, John. She enjoys her church groups, being a hockey mom, and playing tennis.
- Lisa R. Lowe Wright, BS’86, MS’92. Lisa earned an M.S. in Medical Genetics from IU. She is a Quality Control and Regulatory Specialist in the Division of Diagnostic Genomics and a Laboratory Manager for the Cytogenetics Laboratory, Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics, at the IU School of Medicine. Lisa lives in Arlington, Ind., with her husband Scott. She enjoys reading, watching and attending sporting events (especially IU basketball and the Indianapolis Colts), and attending her daughter’s volleyball games.
- Noel Masters, BA’82, BS’83, works as a Senior Analyst for Indiana University Health in Indianapolis. He lives in Danville, IN, with his wife, Helena (Green) Masters, MS’91. Noel is also an Elder at Danville Christian Church.
- Tim McDaniel, MA’85, MS’85, works as a Health and Safety Manager for Navistar, Inc. Environmental. He lives with his wife, Susan (Shawver) McDaniel, BA’88, in New Carlisle, OH. He enjoys volunteering with his church’s youth group and United Way. He’s also interested in nature photography, hunting, traveling, and history.
- Stephen Meier, BA’81, earned his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri at St. Louis School of Optometry in 1985. Currently he lives in Lititz, PA and is a Partner at Meier & Moser Associates.
- Susan (Firth) Meyer, BS’81, MD’85, completed her Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Methodist Hospital, and her Musculoskeletal Fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She works as a Musculoskeletal Radiologist in the Indianapolis area. She enjoys traveling, art, and following her local sports teams.
- Cynthia Moore, BS’78, MAT’85, works as an Academic Advisor at IU’s School of Public Health, Department of Kinesiology. Cynthia is involved with the work of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She enjoys following IU Soccer and Basketball, as well as soccer in general.
- Kathy Osborn, BS’87, BA’87, JD’99, earned her JD from the IU School of Law in Bloomington. She’s now a partner at Faegre Baker Daniels LLP in Indianapolis. Since 2002, Kathy has been a member of the Indiana Protection and Advocacy Commission, created to protect and advocate the rights of people with disabilities in Indiana. She lives in Indianapolis with her husband, Steven. She enjoys traveling, painting, and snorkeling.
- Bill Padgett, BA’84, earned his MD from the University of Chicago in 1988. He works as a Staff OB/GYN at the Weber Medical Clinic in Olney, IL. He married his wife, Amy (Donahue), BA’86, and they live in Illinois. He enjoys Community Theater, exercise walking, and wine.

- Lisa Patterson, BS’83, MD’87, earned her MD from the IU School of Medicine in 1987. She now works as Trauma Director for the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA, Associate Professor of Surgery at the Tufts School of Medicine, and also is a State Chair for the MA Committee on Trauma.
- Shawn Pearcy, BS’89, earned his PhD from Washington State University. He lives in Wayne, NE and works as a Professor in the Life Sciences Department at Wayne State College. Shawn is a certified firefighter and EMT, and is president of the Wayne Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department. He enjoys traveling, hiking, biking, and scuba diving.
- Victoria Pratt, BS’88, PhD’94, earned her PhD in Medical and Molecular Genetics from the IU School of Medicine. She works as the Director for the Pharmacogenomics Laboratory at IUSM. She enjoys water skiing, traveling, and gardening.
- Fred Quinn, MA’82, PhD’85, completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Stanford University’s School of Medicine. He works as an Athletic Association Professor of Infectious Diseases as well as the head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He lives in Athens, GA, with his wife, Joanne. He enjoys playing his saxophone.
- Barbara (Moorman) Schroeder, BA’83, MD’87, works as an Ophthalmologist in Fort Wayne. She’s a delegate for the Fort Wayne Medical Society, and also teaches at the IU School of Medicine with students and residents. Barbara lives with her husband Walt Schroeder Jr, BA’74, MS Education’77, MBA’85, in Fort Wayne, IN. She enjoys bird watching and gardening.
- Tom Spradling, BS’87, MS’08, has worked at Merck & Co., Inc. for 27 years. He’s currently an Integrated Health Systems Account Executive. He returned to school and in 2008 earned his Master’s in Strategic Management from the Kelley School of Business at IUPUI.

- Timothy Wiley, BA’81, has spent most of his career in healthcare sales and distribution, the last 24 years as Co-owner and President of Zimmer Midwest, a distributor for Zimmer orthopedic products. He lives in Zionsville with his wife, Jana (Loudenback), BS’81. While his children were growing up, he was involved with their mentoring and sports coaching. - Cheryl (Mengelt) Ervin, BS’91, O.D’95, is the Director of Externship and Residency Programs at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. She enjoys running half-marathons, strength training, reading, and taking care of her daughter.
- Richard Holdeman, PhD'97. After earning his degree, Rich worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Marc Muskavitch's lab for two years. He has been a lecturer in the IUB Department of Biology since 1997. Rich coached IU's hockey club team for 13 seasons and was inducted in the American Collegiate Hockey Association's Hall of Fame in 2013. He was the sixth non-player to be inducted and the first non-player from Division II to receive the honor. Rich resides in Bloomington with his wife, Amy, and their four daughters, the oldest of whom is a freshman at IU this year.

- Jennifer Morris, BA’94, JD’98, is the Social Media Director for LexisNexis. She is married to Bret Neylon, MS.Ed’97, and they live in Brownsburg, IN. Jennifer and her husband are involved with the running community in Brownsburg, and Bret is the boys’ cross country coach for the high school. They run a charitable foundation, the Bret Neylon Paralysis Foundation, to raise money for individuals in central Indiana impacted by spinal cord injury.
- Brett Nelson, BS’92, JD’99, is a Partner at Plews Shadley Racher & Braun law firm and is on the board of directors for Paws & Think, a non-profit organization that helps at-risk youths and dogs in Central Indiana. Since graduating in 1991, Rick has worked as a Peace Corp Volunteer, a US Naval Officer, and most recently as Chief in the Office of Acquisitions at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in Bethesda, MD. - Joy Steele-Morris, PhD’93, completed a Residency and Fellowship in Pediatrics at the IU School of Medicine. She’s been teaching the 1st year students at the Lafayette IU School of Medicine for 6 years, and is currently the course director of Introduction to Clinical Medicine 1. He and his wife, Aimee Dewar, BA’92, own Backyard Berry Plants, an organic farm and nursery for blueberry, blackberry, and raspberry plants. Stephanie lives in Seymour, IN with her husband, Kyle, and enjoys kayaking and volunteering in her local community.

- Laura (Garman) Caprino, BS’09. After graduation, Laura married Nicholas Caprino and started working at P&G in August 2009 in Research and Development on Bounty paper towels. In August 2013 she switched roles and now works on Head & Shoulders shampoo. She received her MBA from Xavier University in May 2013. She works in the R&D Products Research function with responsibilities to develop a breakthrough product that delivers against consumer needs to provide both anti-dandruff shampoo efficacy AND a delightful usage experience. Recruiting at IU is one of the “bonus” parts of her job that she has the opportunity to do every fall along with her everyday R&D work.

- Craig Ness, BS’06, earned an MS for teachers from Pace University and an MPH and MD from the State University of New York – Downstate. Craig is the director of Mexican Operations for One Small House, a non-profit organization that organizes volunteer built homes in Mexico, Haiti, and the USA.

- Megan (Wagner) Meyer, BS’13, is a 2nd year student at the Illinois College of Optometry, with an expected graduation of 2017.
- Stefani Middleton, BS’13, is a graduate student working as a Research Associate in Indiana University’s Kao Lab. She enjoys gardening, reading, and playing sports.
- Jaclyn Milici, BS’11, is a medical student at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is expected to earn her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2015.
- Alexandra Moxley, BS’12, BA’12, lived in France for a year, teaching English at a high school and conducting genetic cancer research at the Institute of Human Genetics in Montpellier. Now she is a Research Project Coordinator at Northwestern University’s Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute in Chicago, IL. Alexandra is a board member of the IU Alumni Association Chicago Chapter and loves to run. She is currently training for the Chicago Marathon in October, and is raising money for Endure to Cure, a foundation that raises funds to aid in the research and treatment of pediatric cancer.
- Chris Muir, PhD’13, is a Biodiversity Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of British Columbia. He is married to Emily Gercke, MS’11, and they live in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
- Samantha Parkinson, BS’13, is a 2nd year vet student at The Ohio State University. She lives in Hilliard, OH, and enjoys reading, riding her horse, and other outdoor activities.
- Emma Patterson, BS’12, is a Bioanalytical Technician for Dow Agrosciences. She lives in Indianapolis with her fiancé, Alex Miller, and enjoys making and selling all natural soap.
- Dustin Reichard, PhD’13, is a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow with joint appointments at the University of California, Davis, and the University of Texas, Austin. He conducts research on the bioacoustics of vocal signaling in songbirds under the mentorship of Drs. Gail L. Patricelli (UC-Davis) and Preston S. Wilson (UT-Austin). His primary affiliation is with the Department of Evolution and Ecology at UC-Davis. He lives in Davis with his dog, Talia.
- Kathleen Rocco, BS’13. Kathleen is a 2nd year medical student at the Indiana University School of Medicine Fort Wayne campus. She recently studied abroad in Ecuador, researching tropical diseases, and is a senior counselor at Hoosier Burn Camp, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping young people affected by severe burn injuries. She enjoys traveling, cooking, music, and dance.
- Sugata Roychowdhury, PhD’13, is an Adjunct Professor of Biology at the University of Evansville. She married Kumar Parimal, PhD’11 and they live in Evansville.
- Ben Rush, BS’13, BS’13, is a research assistant and working towards his Masters of Public Health at the IU School of Public Health in Bloomington. He enjoys volunteering at the farmer’s market, gardening, and cooking.
- Gabrielle Sell, BS’12, BS’12, is a neuroscience PhD candidate at Johns Hopkins University. She lives in Baltimore, MD with her husband, Nathan Johnson, BA’11. In her spare time she’s involved in science outreach in her community.
- Mo Siddiq, BS’12, is a PhD student in Ecology and Evolution at the University of Chicago. In his spare time he is a web designer for various student organizations, and enjoys exploring Chicago, reading, and eating.
- Jordan Smith, BA’13, is interested in earning an MD or PhD, and currently is a Cancer Research Training Award Fellow at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda. She lives in Bethesda, MD, with her husband, Phil Culbertson, BS’14. She enjoys volunteering with Curiologie in the Classroom, an organization dedicated to improving scientific literacy for 6th and 8th graders in the Washington DC Public School System, as well as research and jazz dance.
- Alicia Swank, BS’10, DO’14, is an Optometrist at Midwest Eye Consultants in Fort Wayne, IN. She enjoys cooking, yoga, and tennis.
- Nicole Sztuk, BS’11, MS’12, is a medical student at Des Moines University in Iowa.
- Nicole Weddell Tancredi, BA’02, BS’02, MS’03, DDS’08, MSD’10, works as a Dentist at Weddell Pediatric Dentistry in Indianapolis. She lives with her husband, Samuel Tancredi, DDS’04, in Carmel, IN. She enjoys waterskiing, traveling, and spending time with her family. Nicole had her first child in April 2014, and loves being a mom to her daughter as well as her golden retriever and yellow lab. She and her husband also love to go to IU football and basketball games, Colts games, and Pacers games.
- Jessica Tang, MS’13, is enrolled in the IU School of Medicine Medical Sciences PhD program as Physiology Major. She works in Dr. Kenneth Nephew’s Lab, and is a Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute TL1 fellow and Paul M. Harmon Award recipient. Jessica is a manager for IU Biology BLAST! softball team, a coach for Girl’s Inc basketball and volleyball, a Mentor for IU’s Women in Science Program, and a season ticket holder for IU’s Jacobs School of music Opera and Ballet performances.
- Alli Thysens, BA’11, earned a Bachelor’s of Nursing from the University of Colorado and is a Nurse at an eating disorder clinic. She enjoys tennis, beer festivals, and watercolor painting.
- Alexa Tidaback, BA’13, is a Clinical Study Assistant at AbbVie, a research-based biopharmaceutical company in Chicago. She enjoys going to concerts, traveling, and working out.
- Lauren Tobe, BA’12, is a Laboratory Administrator for Dow AgroSciences in Indianapolis. She also attends IU’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
- Melanie Toloday, BS’14, lives in New Palestine, IN, and is attending IU’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
- Darren Transue, BS’03, MD’10, is in the fourth and final year of his Radiology residency at the IU School of Medicine, and plans to begin an Interventional Radiology Fellowship at the School of Medicine in 2015. He lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Megan (James) Transue, BSN’06. They have 2 children, a son and a daughter. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing intramural sports, and coaching his son’s soccer team.
- Patrick Trigg, BS’12, lives in Chicago and is attending the University of Illinois at Chicago as a graduate student, set to complete a dual MBA/MPH program in 2015. He is a Community Director for Steve and Kate’s Camp LLC, a summer camp looking to expand to the Chicago area.
- Claire Trincot, BS’11, is working towards her PhD at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She’s studying Genetics and Molecular Biology in Dr. Kathleen Caron’s lab.
- Taylor Twiggs, BS’14, BS’14, lives in Terre Haute, IN and is pursuing a medical degree at the IU School of Medicine. She enjoys dancing, yoga, and reading.
- Stacey Vosters, BS’12, BS’12, is a Researcher at Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati. She contributes to her community by judging local science fairs and volunteering for outreach workshops and other science programs. She enjoys rock climbing, yoga, and training to run her 2nd half marathon.
- Brooke Walls, BS’10, MD’14, earned her MD and is now an IU School of Medicine Neurology Resident. She enjoys traveling.
- Heather Whitaker Chouteau, BS’12, is pursuing a DO at the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She’s a Junior Board Executive at the Trinity Free Clinic in Carmel, IN and is interested in Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics. Heather lives in Whitestown, IN with her husband, Nicholas Chouteau, BA’12. She enjoys running, volunteering, and cooking.
- Matthew Whitesell, BS’11, began pursuing his PhD in genetics before being hired at Eli Lilly. Now he is a Biologist in the cancer angiogenesis and cell signaling group at Lilly’s Oncology Department. He enjoys participating in community service groups including Spread the Positive and Lilly’s Day of Service. Matthew enjoys following IU Basketball and the Indianapolis Colts, as well as traveling, writing, and making music.
- Lisa Winters, BS’11, earned an MS in Ecology from Utah State University. She lives in Flagstaff, AZ, and works as a Colorado River Fish Biologist for the Arizona Game and Fish Department.
- Johnny Wright, Jr, BS’11, is a medical student at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. He enjoys reading, running, and music.
