In their new paper, "The timing of cell fate decisions is critical for initiating pattern formation in the Drosophila eye," in the journal Development, Bonnie Weasner and Justin Kumar describe how the timing of when cell fate decisions are made is just as important as the decisions themselves. Results of their research suggest that the timing of cell fate decisions is essential for correct eye development.
Their image of a Drosophila (fruit fly) eye-antennal disc was selected for the issue cover of Development.
Weasner is a research associate in the lab of Justin Kumar, a professor in the College of Arts and Sciences Department of Biology at Indiana University Bloomington.
