George, Elizabeth (Rosvall Lab, current Ph.D.) Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB) Research Grant and Gaunt Award

Gibson, Amanda (Lively Lab, Ph.D. 2016) 2018 Theodosius Dobzhansky Prize, Society for the Study of Evolution (SSE); honorable mention, Best Student Paper in 2018,The American Naturalist

Keller, Adrienne (Phillips Lab, current Ph.D.) USDA Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) | National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Predoctoral Fellowship

Kimmitt, Abby (Ketterson Lab, current Ph.D.) 2018 William J. Rowland Mentoring Award

Miller, Delaney (Newton Lab, current Ph.D.) Co-winner of $52K grant from Project Apis m.

Delaney Miller, wearing a beekeeper's hat with netting, presents a frame from a bee hive with honeycomb and lots of bees.
Delaney Miller presents a frame from a bee hive with honeycomb—and lots of bees! She studies how members of the honey bee microbial community interact with fungal pathogens.

Million, Kara (Lively Lab, current Ph.D.) American Society of Naturalists (ASN) Student Research Award

Kara Million holds a darter (a small fish) in her hand that she has just netted from an Indiana stream.
Kara Million's fieldwork for her research on darters—small, native fishes—often finds her in local Indiana streams. The tiny darter in Million's hand is probably a Fantail Darter (Etheostoma flabellare).

Mueller, Emmi (Lennon Lab, current Ph.D.) Honorable Mention, Graduate Research Fellowship (GRFP), National Science Foundation (NSF)

Emmi Mueller holds a speckled kingsnake (Lampropeltis holbrooki) in 2016 at the Cheyenne Bottoms Preserve in Kansas while she was an NSF-funded REU student at Kansas State University. She is currently a second-year Ph.D. student in Dr. Jay Lennon's lab where her research seeks to understand the relationship between the physical complexity of environments and the structure and function of the microbial communities that inhabit them.

Munley, Katherine (Demas Lab, current Ph.D.) Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB) Grant-in-Aid of Research Award; 2019 Indiana Academy of Sciences Senior Grant

A lake and trees in autumn colors are the backdrop for this photo of Kat Munley.
Kat Munley. Munley's research examines the neuroendocrine mechanisms underlying territorial aggression in Siberian hamsters, with a particular emphasis on how seasonal fluctuations in melatonin secretion mediate changes in neural and adrenal androgen synthesis.

Oschrin, Emma (Reynolds Lab, current Ph.D.) Indiana Academy of Science (IAS) grant 2018

Parish, Audrey (Newton Lab, current Ph.D.) Co-winner of $52K grant from Project Apis m.

Peckenpaugh, Brooke (Moyle Lab, current Ph.D.) Honorable Mention, Graduate Research Fellowship (GRFP), National Science Foundation (NSF)

Ramesh, Ashwini (Bashey and Hall Labs, current Ph.D.) 2019 Indiana Academy of Science (IAS) Senior Grant

Schwab, Daniel (Moczek Lab, Ph.D. 2018) American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellowship

Shocket, Marta (Hall Lab, Ph.D. 2016) Best student paper in 2018, The American Naturalist

Marta Shocket, while an IU Ph.D. student, collects samples from a lake in Greene-Sullivan State Forest in southern Indiana for her research on Daphnia, infections they get from fungal pathogens, and how temperature changes affect the infection rate.

Shoemaker, Will (Lennon Lab, current Ph.D.) Graduate Research Excellent Grant–Rosemary Grant Advanced Award from Society of the Study of Evolution (SSE), and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Astrobiology Early Career Collaboration Award

Strauss, Alex (Hall Lab, Ph.D. 2016) J.B.S. Haldane Prize, best student paper in 2018, Functional Ecology (British Ecological Society)

Talbott, Katie (Ketterson Lab, current Ph.D.) Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB) Grant-in-Aid of Research Award, Virginia Society for Ornithology (VSO)'s J.J. Murray Grant-in-Aid of Research
