Danielle Murry-Knowles has been selected as recipient of the Indiana University College of Arts and Sciences 2016-17 Advisor of the Year Award.
Danielle joined the Department of Biology undergraduate advising office in 2013 and quickly integrated herself into the office, joining the ongoing efforts of this dedicated team to guide a large group of students in navigating degree requirements. As part of the biology advising team, Danielle helps advise over 1,200 Biology majors, among the largest number within the College. Danielle’s warm and positive attitude with her advisees and her co-workers has quickly made her a fixture in this office and a very popular advisor for students. Danielle is also extremely hard working, logging long hours to learn about the students she advises and to truly customize her approach for each advisee.
Prior to joining IU as an advisor, Danielle was a graduate student in Religious Studies and also a member of the Peace Corps in Paraguay for several years. Her experiences and training allows her to connect closely and be highly cognizant of the challenges and concerns of students. She is excellent at interacting with students who have diverse perspectives and cultural backgrounds. Danielle is compassionate and caring when the students need it, but also ensures students successfully navigate the complex degree requirements in Biology, Microbiology, and Animal Behavior. Danielle has played a major role in developing new degree maps for our majors, and thus understands these requirements exceedingly well. Danielle has very quickly had a major positive impact and is truly doing a remarkable job for her advisees, the Department of Biology, and the College more broadly.
The Department of Biology benefits greatly from an outstanding advising staff, and it is thus with great pride that we share the news of Danielle’s recognition as College Advisor of the Year for 2016-17.
