Collaborative Environmental Resilience Institute to launch

Wednesday, May 10, 2017

Prepared for Change: Resilient ecosystems, livable communities, and health Hoosiers: Indiana map outline filled with drawings of city scape, homes, farms, wetlands, wind energy farm, and birds, flowers, and butterflies.
Prepared for environmental change

The IU Grand Challenges initiative led by Distinguished Professor Ellen Ketterson will tackle major environmental threats to Hoosier health and economy.

Indiana University's second Grand Challenges initiative, Prepared for Environmental Change, will position Indiana to combat the growing threats caused by extreme and unpredictable weather patterns and environmental changes that result.

The soon-to-be-launched collaborative Environmental Resilience Institute will develop Indiana-specific projections and informed solutions. It will arm policymakers with the tools they need to protect agriculture, public health, and the economy from the impacts of environmental change while maintaining valuable ecological services. Ellen Ketterson, Distinguished Professor of Biology, will lead the research team that will build Indiana-specific projections of environmental change to equip governments, businesses, and community groups to respond with the right investments in agriculture, industry, infrastructure, and public health and safety.

Investing $55 million to protect Hoosiers' health, jobs, and livelihoods

Together, Indiana University is leading a collaborative effort to create and implement a bold plan. We are proactively preparing for environmental change, delivering actionable solutions to communities across the state of Indiana.

The "Preparing for Environmental Change" initiative is solutions-oriented, holistic, accessible, data-driven, and collaborative. It will make Indiana a national model for resiliency in the face of environmental change.
