My students and I are interested in how interspecific interactions, particularly microbial symbioses and disease, affect dynamics of ecological communities. Recent research has revealed unsuspected microbial diversity and evidence for its central role in many ecological processes. Our ongoing research projects fall into three general areas: (1) microbial symbiosis, (2) disease and host ecology, and (3) biological invasions.
