Tansey Outstanding UTA(s) Award Requirements

Michael R. Tansey Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Assistant(s) Award

The department annually recognizes an Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) who is nominated for exceptional work. This year’s award honors mycologist Michael Tansey, who is known for his dedicated teaching and his mentoring of undergraduates. Tansey joined the IUB Department of Biology faculty in 1971, and by the time he retired in 2017, he had taught over 22,000 students. He has received departmental, campus, and national awards for his service to students.

Thanks to recent anonymous donations, we are able to recognize either an individual UTA, or a UTA team, from a specific section, who taught a Department of Biology course during the previous summer session(s) or fall semester or the current spring semester.

Recommendations and nominations

Department of Biology faculty and postdoc fellows will be emailed a link to a web page where they may upload their recommendation letters. Non-departmental science faculty and science postdocs should contact the Department of Biology’s undergraduate advising office for assistance.
