Aldred Family Scholarship
Open to any undergraduate junior or senior premed students who have a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology and a GPA of 3.3 or better. First preference given to students from either Allen or Switzerland County in Indiana.
Avian, Wildlife, and Habitat Studies Scholarship
Open to undergraduates who have declared majors from the IUB Department of Biology; have a 3.0 GPA, or greater, on a 4.0 scale; and who are involved in avian, wildlife, or habitat studies research.
Barwe/Rexing Scholarship
Open to IUB Direct Admit students who are majoring in Biology, Microbiology, or Biotechnology and are in their first year on the Bloomington campus at the time of application and have at least sophomore status at the start of the upcoming fall semester. Applicants should have a minimum 3.0 GPA and should demonstrate financial need. Preference given to students from one of the following Indiana counties: Dubois, Gibson, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick. This award might be renewable for two additional academic years, providing the student is in good academic standing and is making progress towards his/her degree.
Biology Undergraduate Research Award
Open to any undergraduate with a declared major from IUB Department of Biology who is enrolled in Biology L490, X490, or their equivalents (such as BIOT X498-499, MSCI-M450, or CHEM X399). A copy of the student’s research paper (or draft) must be submitted with the application.
Blatchley Nature Study Club Scholarship
Juniors and seniors with a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology who plan to apply to a graduate Plant Biology or Ecology and Evolutionary Biology degree program are eligible. Minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need. First preference to qualified candidates who have Indiana residency. Graduating seniors are not eligible to apply. Recipient must present a program to the club at a mutually agreeable time. Award is also open to graduate students.
Howard W. Clark Scholarship
Juniors or seniors with a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology who are interested in botany, soil building, and plant breeding are eligible. Minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
Sears Crowell Scholarship
Open to any junior or senior with a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology who is enrolling in an internship program or course at a marine lab or field station.
Carl H. Eigenmann Scholarship
Open to any undergraduate with a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology interested in zoological or other biological research. Must have a GPA of 3.3 or better on a 4.0 scale.
Arlene Ferguson Internship
Undergraduates with a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who have a demonstrated interest in botany are eligible. Must have at least sophomore standing. Graduating seniors are not eligible. Internship is at least 3 hours a week during the following spring semester.
Fox Glen Research and Education Fund Award
Undergraduates with a declared major from IUB Department of Biology who are engaged in undergraduate research through Biology X490 or its equivalent (such as BIOT X498-499, MSCI-M450, or CHEM X399) are eligible. A copy of the student’s research paper (or draft) in the form of a publishable manuscript must be submitted with the application.
Sarah Elizabeth Frey Indiana Daffodil, Inc. Scholarship
Open to any junior or senior earning a major from the IUB Department of Biology who is obtaining a degree with an emphasis of study in botany—preferably ornamental crops. (The group is opposed to supporting genetic modification of plants that bypass natural selection.) Candidate must have a minimum GPA of 2.8 or better. Must be U.S. resident. This award is also open to graduate students.
John C. Hanes Memorial Scholarship
Open to any premed student with a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology with junior or senior standing at the start of the upcoming fall semester. Must have a minimum 3.3 GPA and have science research experience. Preference given to those students with an interest in pursuing gastrointestinal or liver cancer research in medical school.
John R. and Wendy L. Kindig Scholarship
Open to undergraduates with a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology who have a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
George M. Malacinski Biology Scholarship
Open to any undergraduate with a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology who has a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Must have demonstrated financial need.
Dr. L.S. McClung Scholarship in Microbiology
Open to any IUB Department of Biology undergraduate earning a Microbiology major who will be enrolled at IUB in the upcoming fall semester. Must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale and a minimum science GPA of 3.0. Must be Indiana resident as defined by Indiana University and who, upon graduation, will work in the field of Microbiology or plan to pursue a degree in that field. Graduating seniors are not eligible.
Microbiology Undergraduate Summer Research Award
Open to IUB Department of Biology undergraduates earning a Microbiology major. Must be enrolled in at least one hour of L490, X490, or their equivalents, on the IUB campus during the upcoming summer session. First preference to L.S. McClung Scholarship recipients.
Alfred Parson Mower Scholarship
Open to undergraduates with a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology. Candidates must be U.S. residents, be entering their junior or senior year, and must have an overall minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and a science GPA of 3.0 or better.
Outstanding Honors Thesis Award
Not open for applications. The department asks faculty members to nominate undergraduates with declared majors from the IUB Department of Biology who are writing exemplary Honors Theses.
Sid Robinson Biology Scholarship
Open to undergraduate students with a declared major in the IUB Department of Biology. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
William G. Roessler Microbiology Scholarship
Open to IUB Department of Biology juniors or seniors majoring in Microbiology and who have grade point averages of 3.5 or better.
Fred Seward Award
Open to any undergraduate who has a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology and who works in ecology, environmental biology, or in sustainable forestry or gardening through curricula, research, or outreach. Must be of at least sophomore standing and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Graduating seniors may not apply.
Michael R. Tansey Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Assistant(s) Award
Not open for applications. The department asks faculty members to nominate those UTAs, or UTA teams, who have made outstanding contributions to the department’s teaching mission.
William J. Tatum Scholarship
Open to any undergraduate with a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have financial need.
