The IU Department of Biology offers several sources of funding to support its graduate students attending scientific conferences. Postdocs in Plant & Fungal Biology who are presenting a talk or poster on their research at a conference can apply for travel support from the Cleland fund one time during their tenure at IU (see the Cleland application link below under "How to apply").

Graduate students presenting a talk or poster on their research at a conference.
Award
Award amount varies. If a student is presenting a talk or poster, the Departmental Biology Enrichment (any Biology student) will cover up to $300, the Cleland (Plant & Fungal Biology students) up to $500, and the Floyd (Microbiology students) up to $300 for travel expenses per student per year.
How to apply
All required application materials should be submitted according to the most appropriate method detailed below.
- Graduate students in the Department of Biology are eligible for Departmental Biology Enrichment travel awards and may submit an application to Debbie Martindale for consideration.
- Graduate students in the Plant & Fungal Biology program are eligible for Cleland awards and should submit an application to Heather Reynolds for consideration.
- Graduate students in the Microbiology Program are eligible for Floyd Microbiology Travel Awards.
Applications are accepted at any time (unless otherwise noted); funds are limited and are awarded on a first-come first-served basis.
