The award was established by the George E. Archer Foundation in 2014 to honor the memory of Fred Seward.
Seward Award Requirements
Any graduate student in good academic standing earning a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology who works in ecology, environmental biology, or in sustainable forestry or gardening through curricula, research, or outreach.
$2,500. This competitive award will be disbursed during the summer.

Applicant must submit a personal statement that includes a brief description of his or her work in ecology, environmental biology, or in sustainable forestry or gardening through curricula, research, or outreach.
One letter of recommendation must be submitted by the applicant’s major research professor.

A review committee of two Biology faculty members in conjunction with representatives of the George E. Archer Foundation will select each year’s recipient.
