Seward Award Requirements

Fred Seward Award

The award was established by the George E. Archer Foundation in 2014 to honor the memory of Fred Seward.

Eligibility

Any graduate student in good academic standing earning a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology who works in ecology, environmental biology, or in sustainable forestry or gardening through curricula, research, or outreach.

Award amounts vary from year to year. Most Department of Biology awards are between $500 and $3000; a few are larger.

Apply through One.IU

Search in One.IU for the “IU Scholarships” tile. The system will optimize opportunities by matching you to recommended awards.

To get started, you must initiate a general application by answering 7 required questions and electronically signing before submitting. The application contains many questions designed for undergraduate applicants to IU. Continuing undergraduate and graduate students need only complete the required pieces. The general application may be created at any time during the academic year.

To be considered for Biology awards, you must complete a Conditional Application after you have completed the general application. This application requires you to upload a current CV, a personal statement, and the email address of your advisor who will supply a letter of recommendation.

Some awards may require additional application materials to be submitted. IU Scholarships will notify you if you are eligible for awards that require an additional application.

Notes

A review committee of two Biology faculty members in conjunction with representatives of the George E. Archer Foundation will select each year’s recipient.
