Colonel Bayard Franklin Floyd Memorial Fund in Plant Sciences

Colonel Bayard Franklin Floyd Memorial Fund in Plant Sciences

This award (formerly known as the Floyd Plant & Fungal Biology Summer Fellowship) is made possible thanks to a bequest from Dixie Westlake Floyd, the wife of Colonel Bayard Franklin Floyd.

The Floyd Memorial Fund in Plant Sciences award is available for students conducting thesis research related to plant or fungal biology in IUB Biology faculty labs. Doctoral students may be from any graduate program; master's students must be from an IUB Biology graduate program.

To be eligible students must be making progress towards their degree and be engaged full-time in dissertation or thesis-related activities (research and/or classwork) during the summer.

Note: Students whose research deals with plant-microbe interactions and focuses mostly on the microbial side should apply for the Floyd Memorial Fund in Microbiology award.

The award is a stipend and varies depending on the applicant’s departmental stipend. (Students can accept competitive awards on top of these funds without being penalized.)

Apply through One.IU

Search in One.IU for the “IU Scholarships” tile. The system will optimize opportunities by matching you to recommended awards.

To get started, you must initiate a general application by answering 7 required questions and electronically signing before submitting. The application contains many questions designed for undergraduate applicants to IU. Continuing undergraduate and graduate students need only complete the required pieces. The general application may be created at any time during the academic year.

To be considered for Biology awards, you must complete a Conditional Application after you have completed the general application. This application requires you to upload a current CV, a personal statement, and the email address of your advisor who will supply a letter of recommendation.

Some awards may require additional application materials to be submitted. IU Scholarships will notify you if you are eligible for awards that require an additional application.

Faculty/Postdoc Fellows: Student applicants provide the name and email address of the recommender as part of their scholarship/fellowship applications. Recommenders will receive an email notification from the IU awards application system with instructions for submitting letters of recommendation.
