- Genetics and physiology of bacteriophage T7 with Bill Studier at Brookhaven National Laboratory (during this time Bill developed the first DNA gel electrophoresis)
- Photoreactivation Recombinant DNA Technology with Jane Setlow at Oak Ridge National Lab (Jane became the second chair of the Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee)
